Sunday Reset Routine
What is Self Care Sunday?
Having a self care Sunday is more than just bubble baths and binge watching your favorite Netflix show.

And lucky for you, we’ve compiled some of our favorite self care Sunday ideas to give you inspiration as you develop a system that works best for you.
Why Self-Care Sundays are important?
The benefit of incorporating self-care Sundays into your life is that they will give you space to reflect on your ambitions and strategically set intentions for the upcoming week.
In following this logic, one of my favorite Sunday reset quotes is:
“A Sunday well spent brings a week of content.”

And that is SO true! In order to properly invest in yourself and keep that calm, motivated feeling inside you, you need to dedicate time to digging deep within. It’s more than just an aesthetic: it’s truly a vulnerable, self nourishing act of regaining control over your mind.
Many young women agree–just look at how flooded Instagram and TikTok are with the best Sunday reset routine ideas!
However, it is important to note that if you work a unique schedule, your reset can take place on a different day of the week. There is no stringency around the concept!

How long should a Sunday reset take?
In comparison to a monthly reset, which tends to involve much deeper thought and self-reflection over a longer time span, a self care Sunday routine tends to take less time thinking, but more time doing.
You can expect to spend the majority of your late Sunday morning and afternoon as you mentally reset your day and get ready for the upcoming week.
This will take anywhere from four to six hours, depending on how many of the steps you chose to incorporate into your individualized routine!
But remember, the goal is not to waste the day away with actions that are not in true alignment with your most authentic self:
Your Sunday reset should take as long as you need it to, for you to personally feel excited and content for the week ahead.
What to do on a Sunday to reset?
Ok, so you’ve got the basics of what a Sunday reset looks like, why it is so important for your wellness journey, and how you can logistically implement it into your weekly routine.
Now, let’s dive into which Sunday self care activities you should absolutely make pillars of your custom reset routine.
As you review the tips below, I suggest drafting your own self care Sunday checklist that you can refer back to every week and update your progress!
1. Get up early and exercise
To start your Sunday off on the right note, aim to get up and moving at a reasonable hour! This varies from person to person, but I’d say anywhere from 7 to 9 am is great.
Next, when you first get up, your mind may be buzzing with thoughts of what needs to get done during the week: due dates at work, school assignments, chores, etc.
Instead of letting these triggers overtake you, actively brain dump everything on a piece of paper… I can promise you’ll feel relieved!
Additionally, to keep the Monday blues at bay, make it a point to rev up your feel-good endorphins and get a good workout in! This can consist of:
- Going for a job around your neighborhood
- Completing a thirty minute at-home workout video
- Meeting up with your gym buddy and getting a lift in
- Or even just strolling with your dog for an hour at your local park
2. Stay offline
As you get ready for the day and nourish your body following your peaceful morning, make it a point to limit your distractions: this means no excessive scrolling!
Keep a low profile and have a social media detox for the day. Instead of judging and comparing yourself to what everyone else is doing on their day off, remember why you chose to have a Sunday reset in the first place.
Concentrate on the present moment and ground yourself in your intention (which is to have the best Sunday reset possible!).
Lastly, in order to really be mindful, you can train your brain to focus on your five senses, connect with loved ones, say your affirmations, and take frequent deep breaths!
3. Get organized
To kick off the planning phase, make it a point to get organized around life admin tasks first. This may include:
- Paying any due bills
- Prioritizing tasks to be completed throughout the week and assigning them a date
- Reviewing weekly appointments
- Getting your partner or roommates’ schedules for the week and ensuring you’re all on the same page
- Cleansing your inbox
- Placing any important phone calls and sending off emails to get yourself in an advantageous spot for the coming week
- Charging all electronics
- Laptops, iPads, phones, watches, AirPods, FitBit, Kindle, speakers, etc.
4. Clean and tidy up
Sunday reset cleaning should be one of the biggest–and arguably longest–parts of your routine. So throw on your favorite tidying playlist and get to tackling each room, section by section.
Some ideas to incorporate into your Sunday cleaning routine include:
- Changing your towels and pillow cases
- Dusting and wiping down surfaces
- Countertops, laptops, stovetops, bookcases, etc.
- Vacuuming your floors
- Taking out the garbage
- Deep cleaning your bathroom mirror, sink, shower, and toilet
- Getting your work desk ready with a quick tidy-up (so you’re less stressed on Monday morning!)
- Do a quick sweep of high-traffic areas and pick up your pet’s toys
- Wash your makeup brushes and retainers
- Water your plants
5. Laundry
Doing your laundry doesn’t have to be a pain! See it as a gift to yourself: Sunday is the perfect day to clean your clothes, linens, and sheets, and have them smelling fresh and clean for your work week.
Plus, since each cycle takes time, it’s easy to bang out other Sunday chores while you are progressively completing this step.
A final note on laundry: make sure you use supplies that are healthy for your body and the environment!

6. Food shop and meal prep
Next up in your ultimate Sunday reset routine is buying groceries and meal prepping for your work week!
Carve out time to visit your favorite stores, stock up, unpack everything, and then decide on what recipe you want to cook. This is a huge time saver for those with busy schedules!
It also allows you to section off your meals into predetermined portion sizes, so you’re less likely to start picking on snacks.
Lastly, meal prepping is usually something I do for weekday lunches only–but if you want to prepare dinners and snacks as well, be my guest! Pinterest is full of affordable, nutritious ideas to get started.
7. Pamper routine
Now that you’ve spent at least a few hours reorganizing your life, it is time to pamper yourself!
Take that everything shower, exfoliate, hydrate and moisturize your body, and read your favorite book. You know yourself best, so pamper yourself in accordance with your likes.
Most importantly, know that dedicating time to self care is essential for managing stress, boosting your immune system, and increasing your energy level for the coming week.
The absolute last thing you want is to burn yourself out week after week with no break in sight. Thankfully, regulating your nervous system by engaging in these Sunday self care activities will help prevent that from happening!
8. Devote time to personal development
Also, as you pamper yourself, remember to engage in self growth activities that will make your upcoming week much more intentional and strategic. Here are some tips:
- Dive into Sunday reset journal prompts as you cozy up on your couch and sip on your favorite cup of tea

With all the heavy-lifting and to do lists accomplished, you can sit back and relax before Monday rolls around. And anything you weren’t able to get to today, can be done tomorrow, worry free.
You’ve already set a positive tone for the entire week by engaging in a Sunday reset routine, so you should be super proud of yourself!
