Ready to personalize your early morning routine, but don’t know where to start? Well, you’re in luck, because today, our goal is to help you achieve morning routine mastery!
Becoming a morning person takes the right mix of practice, discipline, and fun. And with the right morning routine ideas, waking up at 5 or 6am won’t feel so painful.
Below, we’ve compiled all the must-have earning morning routine tips and morning routine aesthetic ideas to help you be more productive (and sane) throughout the day.
This post is all about developing the best early morning routine.
Early Morning Routine
The best early morning routines are wellness-focused and gear you up to be successful throughout the day.
Also, they take into account any scheduling changes you may experience throughout the week (especially if you work a hybrid schedule).
Therefore, you may find yourself customizing two or three different morning routines to enact depending on the day’s tasks.
Now, I know joining the 6am club (or the 5am club) may sound daunting at first–but when you realize an early morning is the key to getting your day off to a good start, you’ll be more likely to partake!
Ultimately, whether you currently consider yourself a morning person or not, you can train yourself to gradually wake up earlier and implement these habits in your routine.
Below are ideal morning routine ideas for you to leverage when creating an effective ritual of your own.
What should I do for my 5am morning routine?
In order to craft an early morning routine schedule that sticks, you need to take into account your own personal preferences and responsibilities.
That being said, there are some basic (and very important) habits that we can all integrate into our early morning wake-ups.
Prepare the night before
Firstly, in order to really build a dreamy early morning routine aesthetic, make sure you start setting yourself up for success the night before!
Here are some ways to prepare for your early morning rise:
- Lay out your workout clothes and work outfit the night before
- Meal prep your lunch so you have it ready to go for the office
- Pack your work bag in advance
- Wind down at the end of the day to induce sleepiness
- Ensure you have left space in your calendar to be fully present in your morning routine
- Get to sleep early! (this one is SUPER important! If you want to wake up at 5:30am, you need to be in bed by 9:30pm–consistently. Otherwise, you are way more likely to slack off)
- Draft your to-do list in a personal planner for the following day–that way, you can easily review and take action when you get to work in the morning!
- Eliminate distractions so that you sleep more soundly (especially your cell phone)
- Set an alarm to remind you that it’s time to wake up… the early bird gets the worm
Get a good night’s sleep (and don’t hit snooze)
In order to have the most optimal, best morning routine, get to bed early and do not hit the snooze button on your alarm!
Studies have shown that it’s better to just get right up. And what you think is just five minutes can easily turn into an extra forty five minutes in bed!
In addition, consider making your alarm sound gentle and calming, so that you are not waking up in an immediate panic.
You can also make an effort to stay away from the TV before falling asleep, make sure your sleeping environment is comfortable and quiet, and not eat dinner too late, so that your body is able to fall asleep more quickly.
By using these techniques, you’ll be much more likely to get a full eight hours of sleep every night and wake up energized.
Stay off your phone first twenty minutes
Once you’re actually awake, I’m sure the first thing you’re reaching for is your cell phone… don’t do it!
Challenge yourself to stay off your phone for at least the first twenty minutes after you wake up.
Allow your body to rise naturally before overstimulating yourself and catching up on what you missed overnight.
Instead, consider saying positive affirmations to yourself. These will help you deter limiting beliefs and build confidence and motivation.
These can include things like:
- I am the main character
- I am confident in myself
- I am worthy of the life of my dreams
- I release and let go of past pain
This is one of the best morning routine ideas because it gives you space to connect with your own energy first thing in the morning.
Finally, there are several health benefits to staying offline when you open your eyes, including less stress and a more relaxed mindset heading into the day.
Hydrate, wash up, and stretch
After you’re fully awake, another set of early morning routine ideas involves accomplishing your basic grooming tasks.
First, make sure you hydrate by drinking a full glass of water. Do this before you dive in for that coffee–you’ll feel much more alert, focused, and satiated!
Also, make it a point to brush your teeth, wash your face and your hands, and feel refreshed before embarking on the rest of your routine.
Lastly, set aside at least five minutes to stretch your body. Focus on your main muscle groups: legs, arms, back, joints, and abdomen.
