We all have so many responsibilities, tasks, and deadlines to meet, that we tend to let the one thing we shouldn’t let slip – ourselves – go.
Having a tried-and-true monthly reboot prevents you from slacking on your objectives, and keeps that ambitious fire burning within you.
Think of your monthly reset as a 2-4 hour commitment each month to get in touch with your emotions, reflect on your progress, and identify weak points to strengthen moving forward. It is a buffer against complacency!
How do you reset at the beginning of the month?
Regrouping at the beginning of the month – or at the end of the month – only has to be as complex as you want it to be.
You can start simple at first, picking a few core items to add to your monthly reset checklist: reviewing last month’s goals, setting a monthly budget, and practicing seasonal self care.

The first thing you must do in your powerful reset routine is reflect on how the last month progressed.
Regardless of whether you set goals using pen and paper (which I highly recommend doing!), use an app to track your progress, or simply keep your ambitions in your head, it’s very important that you check in on how the prior month went.
- Did any unexpected obstacles arise? Was something particularly triggering?
- What personal and professional wins did you experience?
- Did anything or anyone feel like it was lacking OR over-present last month?
- How did you feel about your finances, emotional & spiritual wellness, and attitude?
- Were there any small moments you felt grateful for last month?

Next month
With these crucial takeaways in hand, the next step in your monthly goal evaluation is setting new goals for the upcoming month.
Look across all domains of your life:
- Your mental, spiritual, and physical wellness

For some, this may also include developing a detailed monthly budget – breaking down income versus expenses, tracking credit card statements, and reviewing debt repayment plans.

Actually writing down your intentions helps you stay concentrated on your end goals because you’ll feel as if they’re tangibly following you around.
With so many thoughts passing through our brains each day, we don’t want to forget the points we’ve articulated as part of our monthly reset routine!
When things are left unclear in our minds, we keep repeating our ideas and obsessing over them… which leads to stress and anxiety. That’s one thing we can certainly live without!

4. Monthly cleaning and detox
Now that you’ve reflected on the prior month across all domains of your life, and set concrete goals in place, it’s important that you declutter based on these intentions.
Here are a few of the most important steps when it comes to detoxing and cleaning up your physical and mental space for a new month:
- Doing a deep clean of your house: kitchen, appliances, workspace, living room, garage/ storage space, surfaces, etc.
- Going through your dressers and closets, and removing any unnecessary items from your wardrobe, purse, workbag, and/or backpack
- Washing any linens or blankets that don’t make it into your laundry basket on a weekly basis
- Digital detoxing: clearing out your laptop downloads/ folders, setting limits on screen time, and/or deleting apps that suck energy from you instead of lifting you up!

This does not have to be costly or time-consuming. All you need to do is take the monthly goals you set earlier, and figure out what knowledge or skill gaps you have to address to bring you closer to achieving them.
Utilizing FREE resources like digital downloads, Google, YouTube, your professional network, and self-improvement podcasts is a great place to start.
You can rent out books, DVDs, and educational materials at your local library as well.
